Zinio Reader problems

This post don't match with the rest of the blog, but it's a kind of advise.

Last month I bought an electronic subscription to Macworld magazine with Zinio.com, everything was working fine, so I decided to buy another one single magazine "Macworld Práctico, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger" (5,99Eur.). So I paid, downloaded and when I tried to open it ... upps!! ... Error 22-M. After following the unproductive instructions of the help section, I submit a question to the "Zinio Customer Support" on October 21st 2005 and I received this automatic response:

We received your question to the Zinio Customer Support team. It has been logged in our Support database with an ID of 64856. If it was a question or request, you should receive a response within four (4) business days. We apologize for the delay but we have been experiencing very high volumes of incidents. This delay should only be temporary and we plan to be back to our normal two-day turnaround time soon.

Today I'm still waiting and getting angry. Does anybody of you use Zinio Reader?

Update: Problem solved, too much time for a simple 'incident', but at least, now I can read my magazine.

I like this photo because the coaster -Superman- loops seems to be a sign. This ride it's 'riding' since June 2002 ... slowly lift to 50 m, suddenly drop down at 100 kph during 115 seconds thru 7 inversions with strange names:

This is ~~probably~~ certainly my preferred non belgian beer.

In 1871 when the Franc-Prussian War starts August Kuentzmann Damm settled down in Barcelona, once there he decided to live on which better knew to do: produce artisan Strasbourg beer. Years later, on 1876, he founded the first factory of Damm Beers. My favourite beers on flickr.

Kasteel bier made by Brouwerij Brasserie it's a dangerous (11% ABV but taste as 8%) Belgian-style ale ... it has a shelf life of several years. The castle of the label is known as The Castle of Ingelmunster

ufff!!! this was very dificult, one hand for the bottle and the other in the camera.

Brugs is a Belgian White beer made of a particular blend of pure wheat, hops, orange peel and coriander. These ingredients give it a special refreshing taste that it's perfect for summer time. The light yellow opaqueness is because it is not filtered.

In 1871 Jean-Léonard Moortgat set up the Moortgat brewery at Breendonk (Belgium). After the first world war the son of the founder wanted to brew a Belgian beer similar to British ale. He travelled to Scotland and after overcome a lot of hardships he finally managed to get a jar of yeast on which his success would be based. Today yeast from the original culture is still used. The people that first tried the brew, described the beer as 'nen echten duvel' (a real devil). Duvel means devil in dutch

Spanish TV is becoming worst day by day: yellow journalism, stupid reality shows, news with liars politicians ... last night was the premiere
of La Granja an stupid contest of several famous/infamous living in a XIX century (in theory) farm ... resuming with this boring perspective I take my camera and trying to shot a self-portrait, after severals trash-photos I get one that doesn't disgust me to much, this is the BW version

I'll keep on trying to get one with more personality, but perhaps I haven't enought ...

Last usable photo of the Madrid Zoo Aquarium visit. This is a mandarin dragonet and this kind of fishes came from the western Indo-Pacific seas. The scientific name is Synchiropus splendidus wich I think sounds better than the other. His friend seems to be a mini see crawfish but who knows ...

Last week I went to Madrid Zoo Aquarium and obviously took my camera with me. I'm happy with the results of some fish photos.

I almost don't know nothing about fishes, but this one is a Chelmon rostratus and is known as Copperband Butterflyfish.

Always it's so dificult take photos in this kind of places:

normally low light places and flash can't be used
the subjects are always in moving and usually changes direction while you're pressing the shutter
crowds pushing you while shoot (not always)

My average of usable photos in aquariums use to be 1 of 15.

Henry Cartier-Bresson died at 95, Tuesday, August 3, 2004.

All photography fans must be grateful, he had a prolific-long life and different to another artists he doesn't become a myth after his death ... indeed he was a myth lots of years before.

I began to learn about HCB work some years ago when I first saw this photo in "A Propos De Paris" book.

Pedestrian monk

There is a new photo in Pedestrians series. This one was shot long time ago in Valladolid. Walking near the spanish contemporary art museum Patio Herreriano I see this friar walking extremely fast.
I figure that he was angry thinking in all changes that in modern world are breaking the tradicional rules of the Christian clergy, probably I'm wrong ... or not, what's your opinion?

The redheaded woman on the left is Alaska a famous spanish singer (Fangoria).

Due to a FNAC photo contest Safari fotográfico en la ciudad (Photo safari in the city), this week I've been working in an old photo taken the last summer inside the restaurant that Cálem (a producer of Porto wines) has on the waterfront at Vila Nova de Gaia.

The photo shows a reflection of Porto riverside in the window of the restaurant. The white outline that can be seen over the reflection is the Port House of Cálem.

Image levels and contrast has been adjusted to slightly increase the reflection effect.

This photo makes me remember the good food and wine that this city can offer ...

Durability of digital cameras ...

Today a luckless friend of mine, while carrying in a bag his brand new camera, a Sony DSC-W1, has suffering an unlucky accident.

One of the zippers was opened and the camera drops off to the floor, only 40cm of free fall -really not much for the stylized shining aluminium body-, but a complete disarter ...

"High-end optics combine with everyday ease of use in the DSC-W1 Cyber-shot® ..." as Sony says

This makes me think ... in my humble opinion a 450€ everyday camera must be harder than this; little accidents don't need to be a complete ruine for this state of the art gadgets. The manufactures need to think in more than in sell a different model of camera each month ...

From June to July Madrid becomes the capitial of photography. The 7th edition of PHotoEspaña floods the city -museums, institutions, galleries, public squares and outmoded factories- with the work of 170 photographers in 51 expositions including one (for first time) in the Prado museum.

The most important exposition in the official section, perhaps it's "Variations on Spain" -a synthesis of the history of photography in Spain, covering a period between the beginning of the 20th century and the years of transition to democracy (the end of the seventies)- with images from Spanish and visiting artist.

In you live in Madrid, don't doubt! take a look at the expositions; and if you don't live here/there now, you have a good reason to visit it ...

slightly out of focus

Yesterday was the 60th anniversary of the one of the most sadly days in the human history the "D-day". At 6:31 a.m. on June 6, 1944, an assault barge landed a rifle company of the 16th Regiment, 1st Infantry Division on Omaha Beach. Along with them also landed a diferent kind of soldier, with a Leica as only weapon, his name "Robert Capa". Under the heavy and violent german fire he was able to shot four rools of film (106 pictures).

After this manifestation of courage, almost all photos were lost -all but eleven frames were spoiled by a eager 'technician' in Life's darkroom. The rest of the photos were published under the title "slightly out of focus" thanks to the blurred emulsion.

This is one of the most amazing histories of this photographer-writer that tired of so many many wars and so many many deaths wrote:

To me war is like an aging actress -more and more dangerous and less and less photogenic.

This is one of the best photos I've ever seen. It was taken in 1932 by Henri Cartier-Bresson; one of the best photojournalist in the history of the photography; along with Robert Capa, David "Chim" Seymour they founded Magnum Photos in 1947.
Perhaps this photo was the origin of my attraction with photos of people in movement ...
